Need help. I have a 175 evinrude that is in need of a L\U, The modle # part i can read is 175-??-96 the question marks are the numbers i can't read but the 96 i believe is the year. Anyhow if it is, i have found a 1986 150 horse-power with a blown head for sale. My ? is will this lower unit fit on my 96- 175 rude or do i keep searching. They are both 20" in length. Thanks Dave.
 
Go to BPRs site and compare parts numbers.What year is your motor? 1996? Whats the motor model number?
 
Thanks for the reply. My motor is the1996 175 and the one i want to take the L\U off of is a 1986 150. Like i say i can't read the whole modle number on my motor and i won't see the modle number on the 150 until i buy it. I was hopeing someone done this before here, wishfull thinking i guess. What is the BPR'S site?
 
Thanks dew2 that is a great site and i put it in my favorites.It didn't show the lower units and the serial #'s didn't match from 86 to 96 but as cheap as this mtr; is i have got to take a look. Thanks for your help. Dave.
 
I just looked and right on evinrudes 1996 175 it shows seperate carbs for the 150 and 175 going down it shows seperate lowers for the 150 & 175.So I'd venture to guess a 150 WONT fit a 175
 
Yea OK i found it, dumb me never thought about gearcase. I can't find my mtr; on their [of coarse i can't read the searial or the modle #'s on it either] the shift linkage gives it away and flipping back and forth threw motors that is the big difference i can see rite off with no measurements given. Thanks again.
