"Can someone tell me what these little holes are? (85hp #856X4L, '84) There are 3 tiny holes just below the fin. Unfortunately the first one closest to the transum is leaking. Is this a sign of a blown seal? Again these are NOT fill/drain holes (that would be to easy)and I have put the boat up until next season. What is the "fix" for this problem?

They might very well be drain

They might very well be drain holes for cavities in the casting.So pressure test the lower unit to check for leaking seals.

Thank you! yeah they don't appear to have screws or anything like that. How do I pressure test and is it possible I "over filled" when I changed out the LU Oil? Will this be a hard fix for me if I have problems??? Thanks again David
 
"You can not over fill a lower

"You can not over fill a lower unit,it just can't be done.Visit your local dealer or make an appointment to have a simple pressure test done.Maintenance does not cost money " it saves motors ""
