Lower engine mounts

"2002 johnson j90plst, trying to remove lower engine mounts, got all the bolts out but can"t seem to remove old rubber mount. it"s kinda stuck in there pretty tight, does the stainless rod that looks to run through the center of the mounts come out or stay in? any pointers much appericated. david"

it comes out w/mount..take a cpl of screw drivers and pry it out.

"Jwb i didn"t have any luck with the screwdrivers, but once you told me it comes out with the mount i cut all the rubber away i could, took a 4 lb hammer to the stainless rod, the old mount busted and came right out. thanks man"

"Was a lil shallow where i wen

"Was a lil shallow where i went yesterday. Broke both lowers an bent the shift rod....i was suprised to see how badely the mounts were ate up on a 2002 though, very little metal left holding them together. engine does see salt water average of 3 times a week, guess thats a lot in 6 years. I"m just lucky the top mount didn"t break."
