Lower end gear ratio

"Yamaha made all the gears &#4

"Yamaha made all the gears (and powerheads) for Mercury for years. The Mercs had both 1.8's and 2.25's in them. You "may" be able to retrofit, but suspect that would be quite a bit to replace (if it could be done at all).

Ultimately though, it wouldn't make a significant difference in the way the engine performs. You could achive the equavalent result by simply changing the diameter/pitch of your prop....

A lower gear is usually called for a sustained "higher altitudes" so the motor doesn't have to work as hard to turn the prop. This is usually combined with the rejetting of the carb.

What would be your reasoning for looking for a lower gear ratio?"

"My motor is being hopped up b

"My motor is being hopped up by Hydro tech in MO.Carbs bored 2mm more, Bigger reeds, intake and exhaust porting, exhaust tuner, shaved flywheel it should be turning about 7000-8000 rpms. This is why i was thinking about changing my gearing. My specs are calling for a 16 pitch prop but if i change gears it would need more pitch."

I tested a 10 1/8 x 15 on my motor and can only get 4800 rpms out of it. The motor is rated for 7-8000 rpms and i need to get into the upper 6000s with it. So does anyone know who i can talk to get get the gearing change in the unit?
