Low water trouble

Ran boat in low water getting back to dock,trimed up it was kicking up muddy water,the alarm sounded as soon as we got to dock,turned motor off as soon as alarm sounded so what should my next moved be haven't tryed start motor was thinking about putting motor into a barrel with water and running a wire into the peep hole to open thing up, any thoughts that may help would be appreciated. Thanks

Do you have a fitting to flush the engine?
If your engine doesn't have a t-stat or a poppit valve. I would run it and watch the flow from the pee hole.

So this is what I did,I put motor into a barrel of water,started it up and no water was coming outta the peep hole,I ran a wire up it and water started flowing out.It would stop and I ran wire in it again and it flowed again.Keep doing that until it had a strong stream coming out.Ran it probably 35-40 minutes with no alarms sounding off.Seems to be ok.Thanks for the relpy.
