Low RPM in Forward

I have a 1995 Johnson 115 TLEO

I have a 1995 Johnson 115 TLEOR that revs up to 5500 rpm's fine in nuetral & reverse but in forward it only goes to 3500 rpm's. Does anybody have any ideas what would cause this? Thanks

"how r u getting ,,..5500 in REVERSE?...and as far as the basic prob,...does the eng run ok,..or is it shaking real bad at 3500?...if it sounds ok,..i would make sure,carbs are opening fully,and timer base is advancing fully...then,u just need to start checking it out,...spark,..compression,fuel delivery,water in fuel?...do these and see where we are.!A good ,thorough,tune up,clean/rebuilding of carbs always works wonders."
 
Reverse is probably 4500 or so

Reverse is probably 4500 or so engine runs ok doesn't shake or run rough. Carbs are opening fully. Would water in fuel allow the engine to run good except in forward? Thought maybe water in fuel except it's running good at idle & reverse. How hard is it to check timer base advancing fully that just might be the problem. Thanks for all the advice.

"w/eng off......spin prop,place in forward gear,and advance throttle all the way forward..ck that roller on top area is pushing the spring loaded timer......wtr in fuel would make it run bad at all times....more noticable,under load.u may also have a loose,or damaged timer wheel...if u choose to service your eng,i recommend a FACTORY service manual,so u may have the info u need,and can easier understand the guys on here helping."
