"Anyone know how to remove nut/cap(or whatever it is) from the top of the moulded post that holds the circular float in the oil tank? From reading past discussions I am pretty sure the magnet has come adrift(horn always on, disconnect sender wire, horn stops)."

You can make a tool from a stiff piece of steel wire. Bend the tip so that you can push against the bottom of the washer, near the post. It should slide off without any difficulty.

In the past I've used a long thin blade screwdriver to actually "unscrew" the cap nut.

"Thank's Tony, Papasmurftd, I will try those ideas. Going by previous posts this magnet thing is a pretty common prob. You would think Merc would have this sorted by now. My 90 was assembled in Mexico,exported to Australia. Maybe bad epoxy glue, or too much Tequila in the factory."
