low oil problem ? 1994 100 hp

i have a 94' 100 hp merc mariner o/b. the low oil warning alarm won't shut off.(intermittent beep) added oil,topped it off actually it was only 1 qt. low , checked the sensor too.it's good .where can i look next ? is this a low oil problem or can something else energize that alarm? I mean is this an oil pressure problem or maybe an electrical problem?I don't have an oil guage ,but I do have the manual SEALOC and i'm not to bad of a DIY'er'.any experts or experienced mechanics on this engine please reply.thanx,greg

The alarm system is fairly simple on these - intermittent beep is low oil.

With a full tank of oil that only leaves one of two possible issues - bad oil level sensor or bad warning module.

The "quick check" is to disconnect the two blue wires coming from the oil tank sensor (easy, they have bullet connectors) - if the alarm continues, the module is shot - if it goes away "either" - leave the oil level sensor disconnected and be vigalent about keeping the tank topped up OR test to see if it's the sensor itself or the float that shot - the sensor can be replaced - if the float is bad often the entire tank assembly must be replaced....

thanx for writing back,like i said,i disc. the sensor and the alarm stays on, the float seems to be o.k. so i'm gonna go with your simple theory that it's the warning module itself .next problem is trying to find the part #.,cause it rubbed off.and lookin on line there was about 4 or 5 different mods,starting at $90.00 to $260.00. i don't really wannna run this engine w/o the mod because the o/h sensor is hooked into it. correct ?
