HELP! 5.7L developed a loud almost like metal rubbing from the pulley areas. Not belt noise. Not constant-bjut almost so. not impeller! Sounds like a vegamatic. Thanks

"John, I am having a similar noise from my engine. The working diagnosis so far is the bearing on the fresh water circulating pump. The new pump was delivered today and I should be able to install it by friday. My engine is the 4 cylinder but my findings may be helpful to your situation. I will report back and give you an update on my results."

"OK here's the lowdown. I spent thursday and half of friday putting on the new water pump. Cranked her up and the blad darned noise still persisted.
I was a bit discouraged but I new there was little left that it could be. I pulled the timing belt tensioner pulley. Purchased a new one at the auto parts store (the old volvo 240 matchup) and proceeded to put that in. It was no peice of cake put when it was all finished she purred like a kitten.
