I have a 1967 Johnson 80 hp outboard. I will admit up front that I am not very mechanically inclined.
Anyway, after running great for a few hours Sunday, i hit bottom in the river - not very hard though. So I suddenly lose all thrust. Engine revs but nothing from the prop. I get 'er home and the prop is spinning freely on the shaft. After I pull the hub I see that there is no drive pin. Is it possible that this fell completely out if it snapped?
I have ordered a replacement drive pin. Is there any trick to installing this? It looks like the pin is the only thing that drives the prop (no splines or anything on the shaft). I assume that is how these old engines work, correct?
Thanks!
