LOST COMPRESSION DUE TO OVERHEATING

"clogged impeller 1991 150hp johnson overheated buzzer went off imedietly shut off to late melted thermstat housing top 2 right cyl low comp 10 lbs other cyl 90lbs. Do i need new powerhead at $3500plus or can we re hoan and re ring. Removing head ,cyl doesnt look scored. what did over heating do to cause compression loss? thank you for advice"

going to have to strip it down to find the trouble I guess.

If bore is not scored and measures up Ok I bet you'll find the piston in a sorry state.

New piston and rings might be all it needs.

thanks for replys. 1991 johnson 150 model #j150eleis removed head had o rings? around cylanders rather then gasket? i did order service manual from our friends at marineengine to arrive soon iappricate you guys experience and advice before tackeling disassembling. you know trying to save a buck and re ring? if its possible . has this been a sucess for anyone else on an overheat issue.being just rings and minor cyl.damage? Hoping for salmon season to open northern calif this season need the old salmon slayer runnen thanks

"u have a 60 degree eng then..look at cyl walls and pistons to determine repair...what manual did u order,..if u ordered,clymer or seloc,...AND u r gonna tackle this urself,..u need to order the FACTORY service manual,on this site i think,...its all the info u need,except for experience."
