Boat got hauled out and I missing aft most B2 prop, cone, line cutter gone. Any ideas how this can happen? owned boat 5 years..and took off and put on props every year to grease, drive removal etc..no spine damage prop and cone just spun off. I assume I need prop, cutter and what else? Im assuming I did not tighten down bolt inside cone enough? Any one else see this happen? What exactly do I need beside aft most prop and cone now? By the way I would love to go to SS. If I have B2 Aluminum props that work well, would C2(stainless) series improve performance? I have a heavy carver flybridge with a single VP IO duo prop. Peeps are telling me SS would make a good improvement in performance because of the AL props flexing? see pic

Do not forget the small spacer (aka thrust washer) that is generally inside of the line cutter.

it probably came off because the lock ring tabs were not bent down...it came off while the prop was in reverse...the nut came off first and then the next time you put the boat in reverse it spun off....i saw one spin off one time on a guys boat.....it went several feet behind the boat spinning and sinking...

Make sure the hole in the end of the cone where the screw goes is clean with a "square" bottom. Also that the tapped ( and threaded) ends of the shaft are clean and free of corrosion or junk. Cone needs to be screwed down TIGHT before installing the lock screw. On my 280 which uses the same lock system, I have to put a wooden block between the prop tip and the cavitation plate to lock the prop in place in order to get either the cone or lock bolt tight enough. Do not rely on engine being in gear to supply enough back pressure on prop when tightening.

Observe tightening torques. Waterproof grease on spline and screw threads a must.

If you don't have access to a caliper set, can you possible use an open end wrench? 16mm and 20m wrenches are very common. Just be carefull not to damage any splines or threads. 16 mm is very close to5/8.

I would not become fixed on the idea that this is a " DP-A" lower unit "aft" or "inner" propeller shaft!

If this drive had undergone an impact (sometime in the past), nothing says that a DP-A inner sahaft went back in!

You will see only two sizes used for the spinner attachment, and the spinner center locking bolt.
The size differences are considerably obvious!

I am not near my shop, or I would gladly send you the information regarding the two sizes!

So I'm starting to shop around for a rear thrust washer part# 3858458 and the avg. price is about $50? Its a washer? Why so much? it doesn't look like there are custom spine grooves in it? What is it made from, unobtainium from Avatar, this is ridiculous! I cant find a sierra or any other after market replacement either.

A picture of that thrust washer looked to me like it was pressed from powder form. Brass, bronze, maybe stainless. Probably hardened and possibly ground on both sides for flatness. So not just a "washer".

Mark ups probably 100% or so though.
