I just picked up a '56 sportsman with a KLC 6 cyl. The first 20 minutes of cruising was good at any speed, but after idling around I tried to accellerate from about 1/4 throttle, there was no power. The motor maintained the same speed, but you could tell it was trying hard to do more. No backfireing, pulling the choke out didn't affect it. If you brought it back to slow speed was fine. It has a Sierra fuel filter on it and the gas in the bowl looks good. Anyone run across this before? Has 12 vot system installed.
 
Sounds like a fuel starvation problem....clogged filters, clogged tank pick up, old gas, clogged vent, bad fuel pump, etc. If it is a point ignition system, check point gap. A distributor cam which is rusty or lacks lubrication will quickly wear out the rubbing block and result in too little gap.

I was thinking of the same. The boat has not been used much this year and last year. I was thinking of converting the points to Petronix set up, Any feed back on that?
 
I have had coil Issues that have caused the same affect and I had one that was a real hard one to find The tank vent was clogged by spiders and the fuel pump could over come the vacuum for about 35 minutes then all it would do is idle. Let is sit for an hour and offf we would go for another 35 mins or so.
