Loose latch on engine cover

I have a 1996 Johnson 25 hp outboard, J25TEEDA.

The latch that locks the top engine cover in place is loose. It moves freely and is lubed regularly. A nut on the inside of the engine cover is tight.

I’d hate to lose the engine cover if this came undone.

Is there an adjustment I can make to fix this, or are there parts I should buy to replace?

I was able to solve this problem.

I very gently pried up the hook on the rear of the top engine cover. It was easy to do and I was careful not to go too far. This is part #329635.
