Looper water pressure gauge

I want to install a water pressure gauge for my 1989 140 Evinrude Looper. Where do I hook into the water lines for this? I've got 2 lines feeding into the tell tale, a small one from the starboard top of the block, and a larger one from the water flow control valve. I've tried both, and I get no pressure from the small line, or the large line after the contol valve. I tried teeing into the larger line before the valve, and that works up to about 2000 rpm, then it goes to zero pressure. It works if I hold my finger over the tell tale outlet LOL. Do I have to come off the block directly somewhere??Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you know where the exhaust adapter is? On a V6 looper (very similar design) the exhaust adapter has a 1/8"NPT plugged hole at the rear of the exhaust adapter, one on each side. Use an allen wrench, remove the plug, and thread in a 90* plastic fitting, attach hose, etc. You will probably have to remove the lower cowling to see if you have the holes I describe. Yeah, looks like you do have it...just looked up the parts list. Ref #35 on the midsection page is "elbow"...that is where you will probably find a plug. parts list at shop.evinrude.com.

Yup, I saw them, and I wondered if that was where I had to hook into. The plugs on mine don't have allen heads, they are about 1/4" square head plugs. Great, I have the fitting here to go into the adapter. Would it matter what side I went to? I'd like to hook up to the port side. Thank you, I appreciate the help.

Nope, either side is OK. EDIT: Now, If I just knew where to hook up on a 2004 Ficht 225 V6. Those two ports are used for other cooling needs, and I sure don't want to just tee into them. Still looking.

Thanks. The elbow shown as part 35 is on mine, and there's a line from it that it's hooked into the flow control valve. BUT, there is at least one 1/8 NPT plug in the adapter also. Maybe the Ficht has something similar?? The plugs on mine aren't shown on the parts diagram, they must be considered part of the adapter.

It turns out that the looper DOESN'T have the plugs in the adapter I thought it did. Must be another motor in my collection, I know I've seen them. Anyways, I teed into the line that comes off the elbow (part 35), and that does the trick. That line runs from the adapter to the flow control valve.
