Looking for a Gear Shift Handle for an older 5 HP Mariner HELP?

Hey everyone, I'm new here and am in need of any advice that might help. I have an older Mariner 5HP outboard, model 6E3-147024 and let a friend use it recently and he broke the gear shift handle. It is a part that I cant find at any shops or online parts stores (didn't find one where I looked) because it is no longer available. Just wondering if there are any good used parts places or websites someone thinks I might be able to find one? The motor runs perfectly and I really want to get it back up and running so any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
 
That comes up as an '85 Yamaha built Mariner.An older Yamaha in all but name.If there are any Yamaha dealers in your locality have a word with them,they may be able to help.
 
Yes, that would be worth a try.

You would need to tell the Yami dealer you have a model 5C.

If they can't help you can try a "hail mary" and contact twin city outboards - possibly the greatest outboard junk-yard in the world.

There should be an email link somewhere on their website - fire them a note and tell them what you are after.

I will warn you, if you go that route they are not "cheap", they often charge at least 3/4's of whatever the last list price was on a new part when it was still in stock - but if they don't have what you are after it's almost a guarantee that it no longer exists on the planet..
