"looking a used boat with mercruiser 305cid 5.0L LX v8, no lake close by...can you hook up a garden hose to the motor to let it run a bit? if so where???This is supposed to be a Fathers day suprise, would prefer it was a good one!!!"
 
"You need to get a garden hose

"You need to get a garden hose adapter, commonly known as "muffs", that will fit over the cooling water intakes on the drive leg. Then you can hook up a hose and run it as long as you want.
Starting it up without water connected will fritz the water impeler in short order, and it will then need to be replaced.
