LONG SHAFT vs SHORT SHAFT

QUESTION
will the lower end from a LS 40hp yamaha 3 cyl

fit a SS 30hp yamaha 3cyl??

Not a straight swap out.-----------The driveshaft will be 5" too long !!--------------Check part #'s on ----------boats.net---------to be sure.

I have the short shaft, on my lower end,
Can i remove the long shaft and replace it with my short shaft?

Let me rephrase that.

I have a short shaft, i can get a long shaft


can i remove the shaft part off the long shaft,

then take the short shaft off mine and put it onto
the long shaft lower end.

This way im making a short shaft lower end

Check in the manual if parts have the same #'s then you can swap them out.---------Word of caution ----Shimming for proper gear fit / meshing may be involved.

without the proper tools guages, pullers ect it is cheaper to buy a new lower unit if you have the measuring devices and pullers it takes 5 or 6 times take apart put back togeather to get the shims right
