"what would be the problem usi

"what would be the problem using a long shaft motor on a short transom? I have an 8hp. motor thats a long shaft, but my boat is a short transom."

"no real problem, slower speed

"no real problem, slower speeds due to extra drag of lower unit in water, and the need for deeper water or spare props."

"a buddy of mine sold me this

"a buddy of mine sold me this motor, he said he used it on a short transom, he told me to set it on the shallow water position unless I was in deep water, sweet running 85 mariner, made by yamaha."

"I have that same make, but in

"I have that same make, but in the 9.9. I have it on a Western aluminum 13'. It was setup like that when I bought it. It had a 2x6 going across the top of the stern, with 1" angle aluminum attached to it just at the taper. The transom plates were raised to the top, which also supported (inner and outer)the 2x6. I ran it this way 8 years. 2 years ago I replaced the 2x6 with that grey "TREX" plastic wood, and increased the transome plate's size, "trex" is not very supportive. I did this because wood 2x6 was notched so that the motor sat about five inches above the orginal transome line, and it was dry rotted, it also caused a water to rooster tail of water to come back in the back of the boat. I researched the cavitation plate to boat bottom of other boats, and the "trex" was the perfect dimension. I increased my max speed 5 mph. I can email pics if wanted?"

"thanks but that is not an opt

"thanks but that is not an option, I also have a short shaft motor that I use, this one is a back up motor."
