i bought the boat it has the 50 hp on it buddy told me the 85 hp wouldnt get enough power because it comes out of water to much can any one tell me if these are short or long shafts or both thanks and what is the proper way to measure them

"Measure them from top of transom to just above the cavitation plate

Standard (AKA short) shaft will be abuot 15" . Long shaft about 20"

In use the cavitaion plate should be just below the bottom of the transom

if your boat has a step down u

if your boat has a step down under the transom should the cavitation plate line up with it or the transom. mine is closer to the transom than the step but from the looks of the bracket it used to be lower at one time. thanks for any advice.
