Locked in forward 1980 65 hp 650

I have a old approx. 1980 mercury 650 ,3cly blue band.i took the lower unite off to replace the impeller.now it doesnt matter where the shifter is it is in forward motion,no nueteral or reverse.the lock out works in nue/rev postions.can anyone tell me what i did wrong when i reassembalded it,also can you help with the exact year it is,serial#7058845 thxs ron

remove the lowere unit and turn the small splined shaft ccw, reassemble with everything in nuetral. The prop will spin easilly when in neutral
