I have a 1995 4.3 liter mercruiser and am having difficuly locating the timing marks so that I can set the timing. I accidentally removed the distributor without marking it when changing out the head gasket. I got the boat to start and idling sounds great but at 2000 rpm's it backfires. Timing with a timing gun is the only thing I haven't done yet but again I can't locate any timing marks. There is one single mark we used to locate top dead center when replacing the distributor. Can anyone help?

"Rob;
Timing tab on my 1996 4.3 was just behind the crank damper pulley on the port side, at about the 1:30 position relative to the crank centerline.
It has a small "V" in it and when this lines up with the scribed line in the damper you are right at TDC on #1.
If you send me an e-mail I can send you a picture that may help.
