LM318 Advice

I am currently working on a 26' Trojan with a LM318 in hopes of getting it looking good/running, and then selling it. It is powered by a Chrysler 318 Model # LM318BWR10 862. What should I check do before starting? I am planning on replacing the carb because it is in pretty bad shape. SO I also want to know what carb I should get and where I can find the best deal? I am a newbie when it comes to Marine Inboards, but I have experience working on car engines b/c I have a 1984 Toyota Landcruiser. Thanks for any advice. I really appreciate it.

Carb: Edelbrock 1409. Wheel it over with the plugs OUT to get the oil pressure up, then install plugs and fire it up. Warm it up thoroughly, then change the oil and filter.
