I am New to the forums- Just inherited a couple of older 2 stroke mercs from my old man. I really like the simplicity of these older motors. The one i am working on is a 4.0 HP twin cylinder "made in Belgium" Late 70's model Merc. I got it to fire off by adding new fuel and cleaning the carb. The problem is motor only runs @ wide open throttle. I have to immediately starve it with air by putting my hand in front of carb to shut it down. The butterfly's in carb both seem to be functioning properly. the twist throttle does not seem to want to go down to the "Start" position. Anyone have any thoughts? Also... There are two wires (see pict) coming out of the throttle /handle one orange, one black. Both appear to have factory spades on them - Not sure where they are suppose to connect to? I am thinking this may be part of the kill switch circuit since there is a kill button on the handle? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
