Light brown plug insulator. But lots of shiny wet unburned oil.

Yeah. Ace Hardware 2 stroke oil instead of upper expensive brands.

And the conclusion is---? Does it run? Is the brown stuff rust? Doesn't sound like an oil problem to me.

Runs great. Have never seen so much oil on a plug. Starts with only a 1' pull of the pull cord. Just unreal oil on all the plug surfaces.

Are you using TCW 3 oil for liquid cooled engines or is it the generic hardware oil that covers air and liquid cooled motors. If it covers everything that is probably why you have extra oil. Air cooled oil is meant to be burned at a higher temp than oil for liquid cooled so it is leaving some behind.

Is the thermostat installed in the motor ?

Just read the Valvoline TC-W3. NO mention of for Air Cooled.............

Engine has a great lube job.
