Lifting points on 1997 25 hp mercury

I need to lift the 25 hp 1997 merc. motor off my bass tracker panfish. Can't find lifting hooks on motor-----HELP Randy

There is none.

You have a few choices.

1) Merc sells a ring that replaces the nut on the flywheel so it can be hoisted. You remove the cover, remove the recoil start assembly (if equipped), remove the flywheel nut and screw on the ring, or

2) unhook everything if it's remote (cables and steering) and run a rope through the tilt tube and lift that way, or

3) if it's a tiller, run a rope around the bracket and lift her, or

4) just undo it and get a buddy to help haul it off. It should only go about 125 pounds (this method works particularly well if you use some beer as bait. Place a 6 pack in clear site in your driveway and when it attracts a couple of the neighbours, just tell them the beer will be drank in celebration of successfully removing the outboard)
