I have a 1988 Evinrude 150xp outboard on the back of a 1988 Bass Cat Pantera. I need to lift the motor off the transom to replace the steering cables.
How should I lift the motor?
1) Attach a fly wheel removal tool to the fly wheel (3 hole type) with an eye hook in the center and lift with a come-a-long or cherry picker. Seems like you could damage the fly wheel.
2) Remove fly wheel and attach a tool with a threaded hole on one end (same as the crankshaft thread) and a lifting ring on the other end and lift with come-a-long or cherry picker. Seems like a lot of weight on the crankshaft etc.
The engine has know lifting brackets already on the engine.
