lift cylinder issue

the lift cylinder has slowed down alot and sounds like its failing, its on a 1997 mercury 250

if I put the motor all the way up and open the fluid port what am I lookingfor? is it going to make a mess?

just trying to see if it’s an easy fix before I call in a mechanic.

Make sure the engine is locked when you lift it, and be carefull opening the port. Open slowly as these can sometimes be under pressure. Make sure its full. Look for leaking fluid, o rings can go.
