I have a 1976 Luhrs with a single engine and "v" drive trans. I a looking at having to repack my shaft log with new packing. I can get it to a slow drip but after a good run it runs in steady. Any recomendations on type of packing to use and has anybody installed the dripless shaft logs? Since I have to stand on my head to do this I want to do it right.

"Dennis, I use the good old waxed flax packing in my shaft log. You may already know this, but one of the best tips I ever got on repacking was to not spiral the cord around the shaft. Instead, cut sections so that each forms a circle with ends butting, then alternate the butt ends on opposite sides of the shaft for the number of loops required for your log.

Never had any real problems with standard packing logs, so I've never gone dripless.
