leaky exaust 8 HP 1995....noisy

Greetings
I own a 1995 8 HP Tohatsu. The motor seems abnormally loud. As I look at the exasut system I cant really identify the path the exaust takes. It seems like that is the fault, the exasut sytem.

Where is the exaust system, how does it route? What should I look for? I can find no mention of an exasut system in the manual or on line illistrated parts breakdowns.

Any help appreciated.

There is no such thing a a year when servicing Tohatsu/Nissan outboards. Model/serial is everything. I'm going on the assumption you have an M8B. The exhaust cover is on the port side, at the rear pf the motor. Unlikely to be leaky to the extent you mention. From there, the exhaust is routed straight down the inside of the exhaust housing to the through-the-prop exit. If you run on muffs (out of the water), it will indeed be loud. 2-strokers are louder than the modern 4-stroke machines.
