How can i tell if i have leaky

How can i tell if i have leaky exhuast plate gaskets in my 1989 Johnson Outboard?

How can I tell if they are leaking gasses back in to the block?

It is interesting to note that these gasses will cause an air pocket in the block causing sensor to alarm.

"is your alarm sounding?.....a severe overheat condition,is when those area;s are affected."

ok - thanks.

Is tere a way

ok - thanks.

Is tere a way to isolate this overheat generated from leaky exhaust plate gaskets alone?

Overheat can be caused by many things - and I want to determine symptons of leaky exhaust plate gaskets.

"If the o/heat alarm does sound, how do i know the overheating is directly caused by leaky exhaust plate gaskets?

Are u having a cooling problem..........

"I will do the tstats and pump

"I will do the tstats and pump.

I am referrign to these plates/gaskets because the dealer had warned me about them that these particular motors were renowed for breakdown of these 2 components and caused alot of overheating problems in past..

see Photo (Items 35 and 41).

I have a 1991 ? Johnson

I have a 1991 ? Johnson 120, 2 cyc with oil injection sitting on a 1991 Seaswirl, 195 Sierra Classic. Just got it and little things are bugging me but fixable until now. The down button for the power trim, on the throttle handle does not work. The up button works and both work on the motor. I have tried to get inside the throttle handle to take a look. I took the screw out of the neutral lockout(?) button. It looks like the throttle handle should slide out and off of the shaft. It is stuck or ? and I don't want to force it. If I knew for certain that is where it comes off I would be a little more determined. As it stands, I don't know what the trim button problem is because I can't get a look at it. Can you help me with the process to get the throttle handle off of the shaft so that I can view the trim buttons? If that is what I need to do anyway! Once I get to the buttons I may have another question(S) but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Thanks! Tim in Folsom, CA"
