Leaking Stearn Drive

I returned from the lake today

I returned from the lake today only to find milky water and oil leaking from the right side gear (opposite from the tilt gear). I also checked the fluids in the drive and found milky oil in all places except the lower unit? I just had the impeller (water pick up) replaced by a local shop. Could this have anything to do with the oil and water mixing? What would cause this to leak and is it very difficult to install a seal kit if available?

"yea he didn't seal it rig

"yea he didn't seal it right, should have placed, permetex around the housing to seal it and the bolt holes also need to be sealed."

If its not to difficult I can

If its not to difficult I can do this. Is it something that you would recommend a shade tree mechanic do or should I take it back to the repair shop?

"You can probably do it fine,

"You can probably do it fine, but read the manual and make your decision. How hard something is to somebody can't be answered accurately over the internet.
Pressure test the upper before disassembling. There are several seals that can be leaking. Not all are related to the w/p job.
Steering shaft seal is a common leaker.
Improper shimming of upper into exhaust housing is another common one. i.e. check that the shop put the shims back in. Sometimes they fall out on the bench when the guy flips the unit upside down to work on it and he doesn't know where they go.
If you pry the upper up and down with a screwdriver, it should move about .030""

I finally received my Seloc 34

I finally received my Seloc 3400 manual and read through it and didn't see anything that let's me know if there is a seal that can be replaced behind the stearing gear wheel where the leak is coming from. Is this part of the intermediate housing seal kit or is it a seal that can be replaced by itself?

"shop.evinrude.com
You can look up the part number of that individual seal there.

It does also come in a kit - but it would be in the kit for the upper, not the intermediate."

"I've talked to several me

"I've talked to several mechanics who've said that OMC stinger drives leaked from the dealer when purchased new. Is this true? If I change the seals in the stern drive will that stop the water leaking into the oil? If not, is this part of OMC ownerrship...or boat ownership?"

"dunno. Mine doesn't leak,

"dunno. Mine doesn't leak, but it lives on a railway, not moored in the water.

All it takes for most any gearcase, OMC, Mercruiser or outboard to leak and take on water is one piece of fishing line.
I'm on a lake that is heavily used for sport fishing.
I remove my prop every 3 or 4 outings and pull the line out.
I can't recall a time when there wasn't fishing line in there."
