Leak from around transom plate

I have a Mercruiser 3.0 year 2000 and have had a leak in the boat. I just found that the water comes from the bottom of the transom plate. Having already done all the bellows on the drive, is there anywhere other than the actual transom plate seal that water could come in i.e. where the trim hoses go through the fitting? I am intending to silicon around the Gimbal housing with a thin bead of sealant to double check that this stems the flow of water, before going ahead with engine removal etc. Does this sound plausible?
Any help or advice in fitting a new seal greatly appreciated

Running a bead is a way to test the theory of the transom leak.If you positive its the bottom then it may be the exaust tube, or the hyd plate for the trim lines (very rare)

Thanks for the reply. Just want to double check first instead of replacing it all to find the same fault.
