"Hi everyone. I have a problem

"Hi everyone. I have a problem with my Force 125 HP. It will start fine, run a few minutes, and cut off. Will start right back up and do the same again. On occasion, it will run the fuel line dry before shutting down. If I continually squeeze the fuel bulb, it seems to run longer. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!"

If pumping the fuel bulb will help keep it running that usually indicates a bad fuel pump...

"Thank you Graham for the rapid response.Thought that might be it, but wasn't sure. Will the fuel pump problem suck the fuel line dry like that? Have not ever heard of that. Thanks for your help."

"Jerry, if you are talking abo

"Jerry, if you are talking about the fuel line from the tank, then the issue may lay elsewhere or be a combination of a couple of things.

It's possible that the fuel pump is ok if the tank line is going dry. That could indicate a bad connection (possibly tank end) that is letting in air or a clogged pick-up in the tank (but wouldn't expect that to let it run dry - more likely just to stop the fuel flow).

Check the condition of your fuel line, or get another and see if the problem goes away - better yet, borrow someones portable tank and line and give it a try.

Lack of fuel to the motor, where pumping the bulb helps does narrow it down, so everything from the fuel pump back to the tank itself is suspect..."

"Thanks again Graham. I will try a new bulb and fuel line before I go into, for me, the unknown zone of fuel pump kits and repair. I appreciate your help very much. Will let you know !!"

"Hello again Graham. I took your advice and hooked up an auxilliary fuel tank. The motor seems to be running longer and better. Apparently there is alot of water and other material in the boat gas tank, so will have to give it a good cleaning. Took the fuel pump apart, it looks as if the diaphram is pretty shot, so will install a rebuild kit. Thanks very much once again, and I will keep you posted."

"Jerry, sounds like you are well on your way to getting it straightened out..."

"Hi Graham. Finally got her go

"Hi Graham. Finally got her going. For an old force, she really runs great. Cleaned out the fuel tank of water, put in a new diaphram, and impeller, and found that the previous owner had left out the grounding bolt on the starter. Thanks again for all of your help."

"Jerry, good to hear. The Forc

"Jerry, good to hear. The Force got a bad rap - but any outboard that runs is a good outboard. There are thousands of "better brands" in the junk yard.

My buddy has a 1990 90 horse, we just rebuilt it this past fall, blew a piston ring after more than 2000 hours of run time - so can't complain. If you take care of it, it could last you years.

Good luck and enjoy it..."
