"I am running a Mercury EFI 200 hp on a Basscat PII. I had the motor rebuilt a year ago. Before I had it rebuilt and now, it has a vibration when I put it into gear and it is making a knocking sound during acceleration. It sounds bad. I have to shift it in reverse and then forward to make it quick making the knocking sound. I drained the lower unit oil and checked the magnet plug. I found the oil was black, smelt burnt and had metal in the oil and the magnet plug had metal on it. Is my lower going out? Will this be a easy repair or do I need to buy a rebuilt lower unit?"
