Hey Guys, most of the info I needed in the past I always found on this site but now im faced with my ultimate task!

I have a sweet 94 Chris Craft (30') crowne with only about 175 hours on it. I have noticed over the last couple of seasons that I have been having trouble getting the boat onto plane and the motor is sounding a little tired. Here is my plan but need some opinions.

Keep my short block and replace the top end with edelbrock aluminum oval port marine heads, intake, carb and comp cams valve train kit. This should take my stock 330hp to somewhere around or just shy of 400hp.

My main concern is how much Horsepower will a fresh King Cobra handle? I have had no trouble with my King since I have owned the boat, around 4 seasons and i just had it rebuilt(maybe 10 hours on it) I also have a very nice king cobra for a spare if something goes wrong but i am looking to avoid all problems before hand.

I will also be parting with my spitfire ignition and replacing it with a full MSD system (ignition box, distributor, coil and shift assist)

Any experts out there with King Cobra exp?

thanks in advance!
Andrew

"A 30' boat with a single gas engine? yikes....I understand your power issue there. I don't know if your 454 (or 460?) will make that much more HP with all those parts. Most of those head related goodies are probably designed to make more HP by flowing more air at high rpm (6000+).
In your boat, the stock stuff is probably flowing just fine with the boat propped to a WOT of 4600 max."

"Andrew,

Nice boat, I'd

"Andrew,

Nice boat, I'd put a few more jackstands under it if you want to keep it nice.

For what you will spend buying HP parts for your 454, consider selling that motor complete. Add that money to what you will spend upgrading it and put that towards a new (or nice used) 8.1. You can get all the turn key HP you want and it will pretty much bolt right in. It will be black, but if you can get past that, it's a smart move.

That drive will take 400+ hp without a problem."
