"Ok I have a 2005 merc 5hp, this is a single cylinder Putt-putt.
It has a stupid MOB kill switch. Typical half moon plastic key with plastic coil landyard. Now there is no way to turn off the engine except to pull the key tab.
In winter, (I was running last three days a 39 degree temperature) with gloves it is impossible to trip or reset that stupid switch.
yep, on a Black max at 200 hp MOB is a great safety device. On this 5 hp it is a designed lawyer nighmare.
Can anyone tell me it I can replace it with a conventional turn key switch? or can I convert it to a push-to-stop switch.
It is so dumb to put it on a small motor like this that the Merc dealer actually crimped the landyard to the lift handle so no one would "lose the Key".
I really need an "off switch" and this motor doesn't have one. This is a pull start without much electrical circuit, and the only hole in the cowling is for the idiot MOB switch.
Any thoughts (except unsafe operation) would be very welcome.
thanks"
