kill or off switch

I unfortunately bought a small 2.5 hp "hangkai" outboard, had lots of issues with the pull starter and now my kill button stopped working I opened it up and followed the 2 wires from the kill button to the coil, black wire was connected to the coil clip and the red wire connected to the coil adjuster screw.with motor on I pulled both wires from the kill button and touched them together "nothing"so then I checked both wires with a multimeter for continuity and all is good oh also tried a new stop button but nothing...any ideas on how to fix this?

and thanks

the second pic is the same and when I touch both wires I get a small spark but wont kill the motor...wonder if I could run a wire from the spark plug to a switch.I would just choke it as you stated but im trying to cut down on cranking because of the cheap pull starter

thanks for the info:D

you don't want to use a switch on the high tension lead....worst case would be having to use a jumper wire to eliminate the function of the 'points' at the coil to kill the spark.
