"I have a key switch but not for sure what is to be hooked to it.. I have a mercruiser 470 ..
and i want to connect a key switch to it.. but i dont know for sure i had it right.. or even if it works.. is there a way to check..cause for some reason after all was done on my motor i can not get it stay on and i was told many times it may be no power going to the coil. and i thought it might be the switch..there is a pic of the connection on the back...and is this a 2 switch or 3 switch.. thanks for any help

To test switch.
Connect power to B, connect test lamp between ground and I terminal. Turn on key switch. No light throw the switch away.(make sure the test light is working)"

I am going to restart all the wiring.. make sure grounds are good.. clean spark plugs , etc..
the only thing i have left to figure out was the key switch wiring..right now the switch is out.."
 
Save yourself a lot of headach

Save yourself a lot of headaches and buy a new engine harness and a dash to engine harness. All you do is install connectors on some wires. It has labels on every wire; can't go wrong.
 
well try finding one.. they ar

well try finding one.. they are not cheap here.. and I have a good one.. just a mess of wires.. cause the wiring code in the manual dont all match the wiring harness..unless someone has a good one for a good price i might like to go that way.. but as of now now one has one..

Borrow a SELOC manual from someone and copy the wiring diagram. Good luck.
 
that is what i do. i have all

that is what i do. i have all the manuals..
but some wires dont line up .. plus the tachs and etc dont completely match up..
but i will get it al worked out..

"dash wiring doesn't always match, at least with a manual you can see what the wiring is supposed to do and you can trace the wires you have. I've seen harness for sale on Ebay from time to time, and there are many marine salvage yards around to.
Google "marine salvage". good luck."
 
well here in victoria .. not s

well here in victoria .. not so may used places.. more new....the problem is i would have to wait forever.. and I live on a island... want to fish
boat and have fun .. you see my tachs have letters but none are like the manual.. like some tachs dont have I .. some dont have B
etc..
