i had the same problem it is the starter solenoid which is attached to the starter change the whole thing easy job

"To properly test the solenoid

"To properly test the solenoid, you would need to apply 12v to the small wire post so the Solenoid works as normal, if that works then look to the ignition switch."

"Ayuh,... Odds are you have a corroded connection somewhere in the starting circuit..."

"a continuity test can't b

"a continuity test can't be 100% trusted as you can have continuity but not have a good enough connection to pass enough volts and amps to make the solenoid work. To clean connection I use a single edged razor blade 90 to the terminal and scrape, can do the same with a pocket knife or box cutter.

Have you ever seen gauges act funny while driving ? (would tell me you'd have a loose connection to the switch) intermittent starting from the key can be bad key switch, or loose/corroded connection from the start terminal. or busted wire between switch and solenoid, dirty connection at the solenoid or bad solenoid.

Try applying 12v to the small terminal on the solenoid, with a jumper wire (wire with 2 aligator clips) or .. you can run a wire temp from the IGN switch to the solenoid. If you have wire and 2 crimp terminals."

"forgot about the NS, could be that or not in proper position, or just enough intermittently, (sorry i dont use the NS on mine, and haven't worked on boats in almost a year)"

"Had the same problem, I cleaned and tightened all the connections to starter and solenoid and the earths, problem gone"

"Throttle neutral switch wiggle the throttle make sure it's in neutral.

Have a kill switch? Could be the " key " is loose.

When i say " Key " it's the piece connected to the string that ties to the driver.

You tried jumping the boat when with the keyswitch on and you try to jump it at the starter.?

Same thing with a jumper wire. Jump juice to the coil pos, from the battery pos."
