1996 70 hp mod j70tleda motor has no spark at plugs Strange this spring i put new seals in lower unit and a new starter. I started it and it started and run fine did not get a chance to use it until now I spent some time cleaning up battery post and connections after that i tried to start it and it would not start check for spark with a inline tester. no spark when i was working on cleaning up battery i did touch wires to gather and got a spark at the battery. the battrys is fully charged and turns the motor over very good there is fuel but no spark I don't no where to start looking. Can any one help me.

you answered your own question. NEVER EVER short a battery on an outboard. you surely have fried the powerpack. sorry.

Thanks for you quick reply is there a definite test for this when i shorted out battry it was at the El trolling motor however there is a 3 way charger on all the battery's could the short go through the charger
thanks

not sure about the short going through the charger. sounds probable tho. the test for power pack cranking output involves special test equipment.(a peak-reading voltmeter and a pack load resistor) you connect the pack load resistor to primary lead of each coil and to ground. then connect prv to pigtail on the load resistor. crank engine over and note reading on meter. it should be at least 190 peak volts. assuming that you have checked kill switch and that all wires are connected to battery etc. replacing powerpack is probably your best bet. goodluck
