My port engine 1996 model , tach will not respond until rpm's reach around 2000 and will read good until I pull back down to below 1200 rpms then it will drop out again. both tachs have the resistor kit installed on the wires and I even swaped them around with no change.
My question is does the tach read from the alternator or a sensor related to the alternator . Which losses the chargining below 1200 rpms ??
