" #1. I just bought a 1990 Bayliner with a 150 Force engine. I? having idle problems! The engine must be choked every time it? started & only runs for a second or two before dying again or if you hit the choke the idle comes back up for a couple of seconds & the cycle repeats. It won't idle along at slow speeds either, I make a wake in "no wake zones"!! The boat dealer said the boat had set up for a year and they sent it to the ?est mechanics on the lake? and they worked on the carbs, got rid of the fowl smelling fuel in it, replaced the lines, fuel filter and so on. The engine runs great at speed, it just will not idle. Do I need to get the carbs rebuilt? Is there some secret here that I don? know about????

#2 Same boat different problem. Since it won? stay at idle, obviously I? having to do a lot of starting. My starter drags severely once the engine has been ran. (or started a lot). I read another posting about loose or dirty terminals, does this also apply to me, or could there be another culprit? The first time you try to start it, it turns over fine, it? like the battery is discharging very rapidly, it really drags, but the battery has been tested, it? fine. Any assistance on either or both subjects would be appreciated!!!

"Jim,

It sounds like you have a clogged low speed jet, maybe more than one. You have to open up the carbs and inspect them carefully.

The starter problem sounds like a bad battery cable or cable end. Lots of cranking will cause the cables to heat up, and can cause failures, possibly even inside the starter itself.
