"Hi All,

Just fitted my new Pertronix ignition and flamethrower coil onto my AQ200d. Went to the trouble of replacing the leads, Dizzy Cap and Rotor too, to be on the safe side.

My initial observation has been umm not a great deal except my ignition timing on first check appears to be very far advanced with the Pertronix fitted.

I had previously reset the timing with the points recently and it was at 8 degrees BTDC. After fitting the pertronix it was off the scale.

Obviously i can re-adjust the timing but did anyone else experience this when first fitting the kit?

I have to say though, fitting the kit was simplicity itself. All i need to know now is how to reduce my fuel consumption by about 50%. haha. Fuel is getting damn expensive here in the UK.."

"Nick, I assume you have a Prestolite distributor in your engine. Somehow, I seem to recall that because some V8 engines were standard rotoation and some were reverse rotation, the Presotlite distributor housing has two possible places where to install the Pertronix kit. Maybe you used the wrong one?

Regarding fuel consumption reduction, the simplest method I know is not to start your engine and let someone else tow your boat.

"Hi El Pescador,

Thanks for the reply.. yeah its the Prestolite dizzy (ibm....) and clockwise rotation. i checked the instructions and followed the steps for the correct position so am a little confused.

On the fuel consumption.. im slowly getting to that stage... its the equivalent of $9 a gallon here in the UK."

"Just to double check, they say in the instructions to line up the 'C' with the slot in the distributor.. i take it the slot they speak of is where the rubber grommet goes and the 2 wires poke through, or are they speaking of another 'slot' that i have overlooked?

If you could clear that one up it, that would be great.

thanks,

Nick"

if I remember correctly they are referring to the slot of the distributor cap.

"ahh thanks Gents...
Mine looks remarkably like El Pescadors.. (Except mine had the oblong cut-out and not the hole in the dizzy.

However i'll double check tonight that i've got the fitment right and let you guys know.

Many thanks,

Nick"
