I have an old Jonson 9.9 mq 3. I think it was made in 1967. Motor is in great shape and has only been used in fresh water. After 10 years of sitting and a little prep it started on second pull. I have changed the lower drive oil, replaced the plugs and water seems to be circulating good...anything else I should be worried about? I am taking motor to FL and putting on a Geenoe for occasional use. If motor is flushed with fresh water after each use will this be sufficient?

That would be a 9.5 HP------ MQ-13-------------------Since the motor does not have an overheat warning system ( buzzer / light / ignition stop when too hot ) you need to install a new impeller for cooling.-----------------Run resh water through it by running it in a barrel, to get rid of salt.

Does motor already have an impeller? Water seems to be circulating good now. Anything I can do to put a warning on it to indicate overheating. Thanks for your help. This was my grandfathers motor and I want to keep it up and running!

It likely has an old impeller that is ready to fail.----------The result is a motor that may be expensive to repair !!------Many people have learned this the hard way and that is through the wallet.
