2nd owner of a 2007 Chapparal 256 SSi with a 300 HP Mercruiser I/o. Prior to ownership last year, boat maintained with proper oil changes, maintenance and we’ve continued to do the same. Towards end of last season, a boat handler at our dry stack marina said he noticed the knock or a jolt when putting into gear and gave me a heads. That day, i wasn’t able to replicate but since then I’ve noticed it from time to time. It’s about 1/2 second delay from putting into gear and then noticeable jolt as the gears engage. I noticed it yesterday while out. What could be causing this and what are potential fixes?
