i am new new to the forum and new to outboards. I am hoping someone on here can help steer me in the right direction on my boat. I bought a fishing boat last fall and had it on the water a few times. Seems to run well at full throttle, but didn’t like to idle real well. Otherwise seemed fine. The engine is a 94 model
Went to use it it this weekend and replaced the plugs and lower unit oil. Started on muffs briefly just to make sure it would fire.
PO said the engine was rebuilt a few years ago. It does not mix the oil anymore and I mix 50:1 in the fuel. It also has a small pulse type electric pump.
Got it to the lake and Boat won’t run. Have to keep choke on. Very little smoke also. Turned choke knob away from solenoid (I think that manually turns on choke) got off trailer and out to no wake zone. Throttle in and died. Wouldn’t restart. (Forgot choke was on manual which is most likely why it wouldn’t start) let set overnight. Pulled line from engine, plenty of fuel volume.
Pulled plugs. Fuel soaked. Replaced plugs. Cleaned all the carbs. Air bleeds were clear as well as the main jet. On 3 of the carbs, I got carb cleaner out of the side plate on the carbs. I tightened the philips screws a little and it quit. I finally got it to run long enough to get a little heat in it. Took it out and it ran good for a 1/8 mile, then nosedived like no fuel. Finally restarted. Hold choke. Would run again then do same thing. Removed fuel filter. Didn’t help. Doesn’t act like a fuel pump. Almost like it has a vacuum leak or something. Not sure where to go with it now.
