I think it is a late 80's model. Got this motor off a Monark bass type boat, everthing seemed to work fine running it with the cups while on this boat. Put the motor on a pontoon boat and hooked cups to it, started it and after running a few seconds alarm comes on, not a constant ring but a real fast beep beep. It is pumping water through exhaust and through the pisser at a good stream. While on the Monark it did have a pressure gage on the console that I did not transfer, and originally it was the oil injected but that was eliminated years ago. Any suggestions?
 
water on fully?....if u r using the flusher that has metal arms,squeeze it tightly togeter,then,put on eng...must be tight...same control box?...u need to verify eng temp.ck eng for loose brown wire that may not be taped up,and grounding.
 
now that you mention it, water was not on full blast, control box is the same, brown wire you speak of, where will it be located?
 
OK, turned water on fully, made sure the cups were tight, started it up, ran it for 5 minutes, alarm did not come on. Switched it to off left in off position for 15 seconds turned back on, restarted, ran for appx 1 minute switched to off, immediately switched back on and alarm started, switched back off, left off for appx 15 seconds and switched back on and no alarm. Repeated both steps several times and got same results. I guess I need to stay with the do not switch back on immediately after shutting down.

another question....how much trouble for a novice to change water pump on this engine?
 
not bad,...but a factory manual would help not only w/this,but future....i imagine u just have a wtr supply problem....a thermo kit would be good too.i would def inst a complet,wtr pump kit.

NOTE: I retired around 1991/92. Possibly some of the later V4 engines and others may also incorporate a fuel vacuum switch that would enable a fuel restriction warning to sound as mentioned below, an unknown factor to myself.


1 - A steady constant beep = Overheating - The V/6 engines, possibly some others, have a fuel restriction warning which is also a steady constant beep.

2 - A beep every 20 or 40 seconds = oil level has dropped to 1/4 tank. (Late model engine = Every 40 seconds)

3 - A beep every other second = VRO failure, air leak in oil line, oil restriction, (anything that would result in a lack of oil being supplied to the engine).

NOTE - If the warning horn is the black plastic (overpriced) three wire type horn, the warning horn should beep once when the ignition key is turned to the ON position. If it does not, it is either faulty or someone has disconnected it (a stupid move!). At any rate, if it does not beep which indicates that the horn is non functional, find out why and do not run the engine until the problem is corrected.

it does beep when first turned on, it never did the constant beep beep while I test ran it on the other boat with the cups
 
A constant beep is one long everlasting steady beep.

A constamt beep beep is a everlasting intermitent beep ie a beep every other second.

Transferring that engine from a bass boat to a pontoon boat would normally create a height level difference of the water pump area. On the pontoon boat, the engine is probably sitting too high resulting in having the water pump draw air.
 
with ur oil system,PROPERLY disc,...u should not get anything,but a tone when key is turned on,..and overheat...constant horn...
 
i have seen/heard aftermarket controls,or horns,that when overheat is encountered,it beeps extrememely fast,yet not the usual constant horn,..i'm thinking,that is what he may have.
 
I have not had it in the water yet, all the test running has been done with cups, so swapping from bass boat to pontoon is not the issue yet. I was just wondering if maybe I had left a wire unconnected that could be causing the beep. It is a constant bee beep, not every 2 seconds.
