johnson timing tool

Where do I buy the factory timing tool for a 1975 Johnson 75 HP three cylinder engine? The manual shows a tool that screws into the the spark plug hole on the #1 cylinder. TIA.

The timing adjustments on these motors are fixed and normally do not need adjusting for the life of the motor.-----------Are you having running issues with the motor ?-----What is the motor doing / not doing ?

just acquired the motor and have not had it under load yet. idle seems a bit rough, and I want to verify the timing settings because the lock nut on the adjuster was loose.

That tool is used to make sure that the timing pointer is in the correct place.------A timing light can be used to determine if maximum spark advance is correct.----Trouble shooting on a 37 year old motor starts with a compression test.

I just made one out of a old spark plug and bolt . I knocked out the ceramic and tapped the center of the spark plug and screwed in a bolt. Just google homemade piston stop or purchase one online if you can wait.

The compression test I conducted two days ago showed 160 lbs. on cylinders 1 and 3 and 150 on cylinder 2. The carbs are good, only thing left is timing or coils. The plugs show uniform good color so I don't think its the coils. I still want to verify TDC and advance under load.
