I have a Johnson TN 28 year 1952 and I need to know about the copper tub that starts at the carb goes to a valve that is turned by hand then from the valve goes up to the top crank bearing. how does this work during start up and when running ? Thanks Kevin in AZ and you can call me (928) 255- 9856

Think of that as a separate carburetor for slow speed operation. Fuel comes from the side carburetor, passes through the needle valve and mixes with the air going in through the hole you are looking at. From there, it goes through a rotary valve that directs it to the proper (upper/lower) cylinder. Normal opening for the needle is 5/8 +/- turn open. Fuel and air for high speed operation is from the carburetor on the side, and the wheel on the tank controls the rich/lean mixture at high speed.

That is known as a "third port" engine. No reeds.

Thank You very much for the help fdrgator here in AZ we have a lot of old motors still in good shape just trying to save some from the junk pile and I am not able to log into the AOMCI.org guys it keeps blocking me. Thanks again Kevin
